Like any new technology, the development time line starts with an inspiration and follows a path from historical roots to innovative delivery. UltraAnalytix™ is a combination of ultrasonic data collected in the field, external visual inspection and analysis using a proprietary algorithm.  The non-destructive data collection can be collected from an external surface often while the equipment is running, thereby limiting the need for confined space entry.  The research into this system is based on more than 50 years of research, dating back to the 1960’s and includes work conducted by NASA.  In 2000, Geoff Clarkson, FRP Subject Matter Expert, began looking at various methods of looking beneath the surface of visual inspection of fiberglass reinforced plastic (FRP) to provide repeatable and reproducible data. This information can then provide manufacturers and end users valuable baseline information about the equipment and then follow it along over time to provide reliability, life cycle information (repair and replacement predictions). This system has been tested for reliability in that multiple users can collect data from the same locations and get the same results as well as validity against destructive results (through UTComp, and third party).

  • 2000 – Geoff Clarkson began investigation into reliable and valid methods of inspection Fiberglass Reinforced Plastic(FRP)/Glass Reinforced Plastic(GRP)
  • 2008 – UTComp released Vessels and Large diameter pipe Inspection (greater than 300mm)
  • 2009 – UTComp formalizes Internal and External Visual Inspection Methods
  • 2011 – UTComp trained first licensees
  • 2015 – UTComp released Pipe Inspection (greater than 70mm)
  • 2015 – UTComp trains UTComp Engineering Analysts and Licensees in Pipe Inspection
  • 2015 – UTComp is validated by the researchers Dr. Uday Vaidya at the University of Alabama and Dr. George Zhu at York University.
  • 2015 – UTComp recieves a grant from Industrial Research Assistance Program to further research into the bonding of FRP.
  • 2015-2016 – Development required for bonding of fiberglass reinforced plastic (FRP) (Joints, nozzles, repads, etc)
  • 2016 –Development of analysis of bonding of Fiber Reinforced Composites to Steel
    • Development of a Quality Assurance/Control for Manufacture (Vessels and Pipe)
