White Papers and Case Studies

UTComp is excited to see the number of applications of this powerful system. We have included a number of Case Studies to demonstrate some of the many applications of this inspection method. UTComp is dedicated to the inspection of fiberglass reinforced plastic (FRP) equipment, giving owners and manufacturers reliable and valid information about their assets.

Since 2013, Some Company embraced a new way of inspecting their Fiberglass Reinforced Plastic Assets. This inspection program utilized the UTComp System, including a network of Licensee trained data collectors and UTComp expert analysis. While the UTComp System can be used on all fiberglass reinforced plastic assets greater than 2inches or 5cm in diameter, all inspections have been on larger diameter tanks rather than piping. This new system replaced a program that was based on a time in service approach whereby equipment would be replaced every 7 years or 15 years depending on the type of service and process fluid.
The purpose of this report is to provide a summary of the data collected to date with some basic analysis. Click here to read the complete report

Case Studies

  • Preventing Failure
This case study describes how the UTComp System analysis of a Fiberglass Reinforced Plastic (FRP) tank identified risks to the vessels and detected damage that could result in failure. From this work, other recommendations are made to increase the reliability of FRP fabrications.
  • Using the UTComp System to Monitor Vessel Condition and Restoration
This case describes where the UTComp System has been applied to monitor the condition of a Fiberglass Reinforced Plastic (FRP) tank, recommend repairs to the tank and provide structural data on the repaired tank.
  • Stress Corrosion Cracking Case Study
Case Study of Stress Corrosion Cracking of Glass Fibers in a FRP Vessel
  • Vessel Monitoring and Restoration
Describes where the UTComp® System has been applied to monitor the condition of a Fiberglass Reinforced Plastic (FRP) tank, reccommending repairs to the tank and providing structural data on the repaired tank.
